The NEPWHAN Sokoto State Team, in collaboration with the Sokoto State Agency for the Control of AIDS (SACA), successfully organized a two-day orientation for Mentor Mothers from 28th to 29th September, 2024. This event brought together passionate women who will play a crucial role in supporting and guiding HIV-positive mothers across the state.
The Mentor Mothers program is designed to empower women living with HIV by providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to mentor other mothers in the same situation. Through this initiative, the Mentor Mothers will offer emotional support, share personal experiences, and educate others on health management, adherence to treatment, and prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
Over the course of two days, participants engaged in interactive sessions focused on:
- HIV Treatment & Adherence: Understanding the importance of sticking to treatment plans and ensuring health stability.
- Mother-to-Child Transmission Prevention: Training on the best practices to prevent the transmission of HIV from mother to child during pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding.
- Peer Support & Counseling: Equipping Mentor Mothers with the skills needed to provide emotional and psychological support to other mothers.
The NEPWHAN Sokoto Team, in partnership with SACA under The Global Fund GC7 Grant, remains committed to improving the lives of women living with HIV and their families through community-driven initiatives such as the Mentor Mothers program. We believe that by empowering these mothers, we are not only improving their health outcomes but also strengthening the support system for HIV-positive women throughout the state.
We are proud of the dedication shown by all the Mentor Mothers and look forward to seeing their positive impact on the lives of many families. Together, with the support of SACA, we are stronger and more capable of making a difference.
