NEPWHAN Taraba State staff co-facilitated a one-day stepdown training workshop with #REDAID Nigeria, a partner implementing #The Global Fund Tuberculosis program in Taraba State. The training which took place at Nurses House in Jalingo, Taraba State, on September 11, 2024, focused on providing HIV Testing Services (HTS) to presumed pregnant women in the state.
The training was designed to facilitate successful implementation of Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) program, under The Global Fund Nigeria TB/HIV Reach Integration and Impact Project (N-THRIP), implemented in Nigeria by #IHVN as the prime recipient in collaboration with #REDAID Nigeria, #NEPWHAN and other partners.
At the training NEPWHAN supported in strengthening the capacity of the trainee participants as community testers to become more efficient in responding to HTS needs of presumed pregnant women in the community and ensure proper linkage of those found HIV-positive with NEPWHAN-supported mentor mothers, for supportive counseling and referrals to appropriate treatment services in Taraba State.
NEPWHAN also guided the participants on the use M&E tools, strengthening their capacity on effective documentation and tracking of services in supported healthcare facilities.
Overall, the training enhanced efficient coordination among providers of integrated HIV, TB, and Hepatitis services, to promote quality antenatal care for the pregnant women, and ultimately help close PMTCT achievements gap in the state.
